World Athletics introduces $50,000 prize money for Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalists

World Athletics (WA) announced that it will award prize money to Olympic gold medalists at the Paris 2024 Games. This makes WA the first international sports governing body to offer such a reward. The federation has set aside a prize pot of $2.4 million from the International Olympic Committee’s revenue share allocation. Gold medalists in the 48 track and field events will receive $50,000, while relay teams will share the same amount. WA plans to extend the bonus initiative to silver and bronze medalists at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
